Mobile manufacturers try to achieve the best experience with a battery for both its capacity and charge, and in addition to some competition in achieving faster cable charging we also have more and more options in terms of wireless charging . Hence, now that we have seen the main releases of this year quite likely, it is worth reviewing how wireless charges are going on mobile phones.
It was a system that at first was not extended like other options or technologies by materials, among other reasons, since it cannot be applied in plastic mobiles. The extension of the glass rear has allowed this load to reach mobiles of more ranges and the improvement of technology has facilitated the existence of various options, we review them.
Before starting, we can clarify the concept of wireless charging to avoid confusion, as we did when recommending wireless chargers . Wireless charging is, for the moment, a contact charge on which we have to support the phone on the charging base, at least before the wireless contactless charge is not yet ready to be functional and spread.
There are also different wireless charging standards , finding the following:
- Qi load : the most popular. This system uses quite high frequencies, which in the end requires that the mobile be placed in a certain place to improve the efficiency of the load.
- PMA (or Airfuel) : the second most popular. Unlike the previous one, it is less demanding in terms of the place of placement of the mobile because it allows larger electromagnetic fields (so that the surfaces of caga can be wider and support several devices charging at the same time), but it is less efficient than Qi.
- Fast Wireless Charging : the wireless charging system developed by Samsung. A standard compatible with its high-end smartphones that also support Qi.
- Wattup and Cota : allow to load devices up to 5 and 10 meters away respectively, although for the moment we do not see them in devices (and in the case of the second one it is extremely slow, only 1 watt).
My Turbo Charge
Not always arriving first is having an advantage. One of the last manufacturers to launch its proposal is Xiaomi and it did breaking record with Mi Charge turbo, offering 30W of maximum load power , although its current mobiles reach 20W as the Xiaomi Mi 9 .
In the absence of official confirmation, this charge may be 6V / 5A or 7.5V / 4A, promising to recharge a 4,000 mAh battery from 0 to 50% without wires in 25 minutes and to obtain a full charge in 69 minutes according to the manufacturer . The brand is also trying to get ahead of the fast charge with Super Charge Turbo , showing in a demo that a Xiaomi mobile with a 4,000 mAh battery was 100% charged in just 17 minutes.
Samsung Adaptive Fast Charge
The South Koreans started earlier with their commitment to wireless charging with their Adaptative Fast Charge, being able to reach maximums of 9V / 2A at 18W according to the manufacturer, although in their mobiles we see loads of up to 15W as in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ . The striking thing is not so much the power, but it also supports the reverse wireless charging of 9W (PowerShare).
Huawei wireless charging
From this manufacturer we know the SuperCharge, its fast charge that reaches up to 55W being this way the most powerful at the moment (although available in the Huawei Mate X , the current range caps already in the market reach 40W). But phones like the Huawei P30 Pro have 15W wireless charging , as well as reverse charging.
OPPO Wireless VOOC
As we have seen that happens in Xiaomi, OPPO wireless charging is up to 20W , although the manufacturer officially talks about 30W . These also aim to achieve fast (wired) very fast loads, promising loads in just half an hour with 65W.
Apple, Google and others
Apple was begged, but wireless charging reached its terminals. At the moment their chargers allow a load of 7.5W , so that they offer the minimum with respect to their competition.
Google, meanwhile, offers up to 10W of power with its official wireless charger. The same power is that offered by Nokia and for its part LG offers up to 9W.
Razer also works with Qi load like the previous ones, but in his Razer 2 Phone he manages to reach 11.25W . ZTE also incorporates it into the ZTE Axon 10 Pro up to 15W of wireless charging.
We leave you a summary table with all the manufacturers that we have gathered in the article and the powers of their technologies:
